i decided to do a search for the best online textbook buy-back site. so i conducted an experiment. i took the ISBN of one book i want to sell and i plugged it into a few web sites to see which site would give me the most money for my book. the results were that bookbyte.com would give me the most $ back for my book, but after doing some google searches for "bookbyte reviews" i decided that i should not use them. a teacher suggested using facultybooks.com, but they don't pay that well. i could use amazon to sell back my books but they only pay you when you have a buyer and that could be tomorrow or, well... never.
so im back to square one, with all my books still sitting on my shelf and no idea what to do with them. so if you've got any ideas for me, im up for anything at this point!

sometimes the college you go to bookstore will buy it back for cash. or try on facebook
Why don't you just find out if anyone else in your college wants to buy the books off you?
I've used Half.com which is owned by Ebay.
The benefit of Half.com, would be it's large user base, but there's fees.
If you're looking for a free alternative, Facebook or Craigslist might be more useful.
thank you!
im not on facebook so that rules that out...
my college doesn't have a bookstore...
maybe half.com
but thanks
ur not on facebook?! **GASP**
espes- was that sarcastic or what?
a little lol
Facebook is not a bad thing, like lots of things it depends how you utilize it, and could be used for good and bad.
I use Facebook, and have all my settings on private, so it's just me and six friends.
hey geek, no1 said facebook is bad
i am not getting involved in the facebook debate but all im saying is that im not on it and that i am doing that purposely
its all good... i dont judge ;-P
I dunno why, but I never sold any of my books, I have all my books sitting under my bed in piles. I lend them out a lot to people who need them, and then they give it back. Although by 2 books it was a misunderstanding, and they kept the books, but I'm okay with that too, so long as it wasn't a accounting book that I need for my major. I decided my books for my major I'll keep just in case, although I doubt I'll look at them again. Then all my other books...I probably should sell them, but I guess I'm being sentimental about them.
and by my college, they started a facebook group last year so that we can exchange books with each other. I was able to help out a girl that way. But I never like getting books from others, I always by mine myself. I suppose because my parents pay for it, I'm not so stingy with it. My father said in the beginning, that anything for education, he will pay for, so I don't feel guilty about it.
and Tembow about facebook, reminds me of the discussion we had. But its good like that..for you.
In response to Espes:
I was just expressing my thoughts on Facebook altogether, since you mentioned it.
And btw plenty of people think Facebook is bad, but those are usually the ones who've never used it.
i know ppl think fb is bad- but i meant that no1 here was saying that
Espes:
I was expressing my thoughts, since Facebook was mentioned, and I was NOT responding to somebody saying it was bad...
Yes, I use Facebook and could be you use it too.. It's fun and and a good way to waste time in, you just gotta be careful, that's it...
I have my account on all private settings, so no problems for me.
Hope that clarifies it...
who woulda thunk we'd get from textbooks to a hot debate on the topic of facebook...
Tembow, you've got yourself an idea for another post...lol
facebook is a useful social networking tool. thats it. like cellphones, internet, cars, whatever, it depends how you use it. tembow try posting a sign in college in the classroom of the professor who assigned the books you own
Facebook isn't bad- it's possibly just not necessary for everyone.
I chose not to be on it- and actually, I find it annoying sometimes when people send me pictures and I can't view them because I don't want a FB account.
NMF#7: Your able to see pictures of others on facebook without creating an account. They have to give you the share link that's on the bottom of the page. I did this with a girl who doesn't have facebook, and it worked.
Tembow: And I think facebook has changed over time, its now not only for social purposes. My father actually e-mailed me how facebook can be useful for finding a job. Also, my neighbor whose a grandmother is on there, and all other types of people, so its not just young people.
R' Wallerstein once gave a speech about facebook, I didn't go, but I heard about it, and watched it after the fact on torahanytime.com and I saw he mostly talked about the groups and events being a problem. Which for most people isn't a problem, nobody's gonna change their lifestyle just because they were invited to an event.
But I can see where others wouldn't want facebook. I've had it for a long time, and I've kept it quiet, I didn't know if I should tell others, cause I thought they would see it as a bad thing. Then I continuously get surprised when I'm talking to people and they mention they have facebook. Like sometimes in conversation it comes up where I mentioned I saw some pictures from a bris/bar mitzvah/wedding or anything, and they'll ask me, "how did you see it?" So then I used to not say how, cause I thought they wouldn't understand. But then I realized that it's just a regular thing, and that most people know what it is by now, so I can tell them.
in some circles, facebook is still viewed negatively
Tembow: right that's true. But I guess after I left HS, I never really came upon that circle again. Although I have friends that don't have facebook, but they also don't have internet.
try posting signs up in your college, although some places require you to get permission to hang signs up.
also try the inside of bathroom stalls, people always read those flyers
try good old networking. if you're doing accounting, business, psychology, nursing, OT, or PT, there are always new frum girls going into those fields who'll need your books
thank you everybody for your ideas!
